Fruit Trees

We sell a variety of fruit trees, all of them are the hardiest varieties we can buy, but even so we sell them with a warning to plant in an area where they are protected from northwest winds but out in full sun.  They are somewhat risky to grow this far north as they are prone to winter kill.  They do better in the southern half of Temiskaming than in the northern part, though some people do report success even as far north as Timmins.

Most fruit trees require 2 different varieties for cross pollination and fruit production.

We recommend covering the trunk with a plastic tree protector in the fall as fruit trees are a favorite target for mice and rabbits in winter.  If the bark is eaten off in a ring all the way around the trunk, the tree will die.  Tree protectors are inexpensive and take only a minute to put on.
