Asiatic Lilies
Asiatic lilies are characterized by their vigorous growth, reflexed
petals and lack of fragrance.
They bloom in June and July, before the orientals. They are
the hardiest and the easiest to grow of all lilies, with virtually
no disease or pest troubles.
They grow best in full sun and are not particular about soil types.
Fertilizing in the spring and adding compost or old manure will give
you more flowers and improved vigor.
When they are finished flowering you may cut off the top of the
stems where the flowers were, but leave the stem itself to provide
nourishment for the bulb. The stems may not be cut off until
they have turned brown in the late fall. |

Oriental Lilies
These are the most beautiful and exotic looking of lilies. They
have huge flowers and an outstanding scent.
They bloom in late July and August.
These grow best in full sun. They are not tolerant of alkaline soils. Protect shoots from late spring frosts, while Asiatics are
not bothered by these frosts, the more tender oriental shoots can
freeze off. Cover with cloth or fibre pots to prevent damage. As
with the other types, don’t cut the stems off until they have turned
brown in the late fall.
